Today was a huge success. We capitalized on our learning from day-one of our test trip and left the Walmart parking lot with a few plans in mind. From there we let the day unfold spontaneously.

Surprise surprise…. Georgiana Falls was totally awesome, the highlight of the day. It seemed more like a local find than a tourist destination, drawing us in for half the day. Instead of following the trail, we almost immediately headed up the gorge, hopping back and forth across the river, waterfall after waterfall, Teryn eagerly in the lead. It was serene, hard work and great fun. Round trip a little more than 3 miles – 2 plus hours up, 30 minutes down.

Then off to the Basin, the story of the Old Man in the Mountain, and Boise Stone for a bit of full-on tourist time.

The capstone of the day was when Kevin, while driving, looked up at a black dot at near the top of a ski trail saying, “I wonder if that’s a bear”. The scrabble to get the spotting scope was rewarded by a crisp long view of a black bear slowly munching his way across the trail.

Our final landing place, a National Forest camp ground. Girls all tuckered out, 4.5 plus hiked miles under their belt for the day, fell asleep before the sun went down.

Perfect day!
