Test Run Day 1 – And We Are Off For a Test Run

It was time to take a test run in the motorcoach before we head out for 5 consecutive weeks. First off, a night boondocking at Killington Mountain resort. There was then the adventure to find the best apple turnovers to give sustenance for a 4 mile hike from waterfall to pond. At 94F the day required a swimming hole achieved by a hike to and dip in the Quechee Gorge with our neighbors Paul and Jen. Finally an end to the the day boondocking again at a Walmart in New Hampshire as we prepare for tomorrow in the Whites.

On our hike today the girls were fascinated by the idea of foraging. Ferns carpeted the forest floor, so the conversation centered around fiddlehead. Unfortunately, we were too late to collect our own. Knowing small markets flourish in Vermont, we were confident that we could find some. Our loyalty to the State was rewarded at the Quechee Market. We snapped up the last of their fiddleheads and the first cooked meal in the motorcoach was born – garlic and wine sautéed fiddleheads over pasta and topped with freshly grated Parmesan.

Today we learned, it’s good to be spontaneous, with the caviet that there should be a few plans from which to choose versus a completely open ended adventure. We were reminded that good food and well fed people make for a happier day.

Everyone is now tucked in bed and many are fast asleep.
